The community

A town of brilliant minds.

Kwabeng is a town in the Atiwa East District of Ghana's Eastern Region. Home to over 30,000 residents, it is surrounded by lush cocoa farms and gold mining operations. The community is vibrant, resilient, and deeply values education.

Despite this dedication to learning, the town faces significant challenges. Before the African Book Challenge opened its library in 2012, there was no library or bookstore within 25 miles. Students often shared a single textbook among an entire class.

Senior High School in Ghana requires boarding, costing approximately $650 per year — an amount many families simply cannot afford. Without intervention, talented students are forced to drop out.
